Chapter 4: Painting
Mika opened a notebook.
“I’m drawing you,” she said.
The pencil moved.
A-19 looked.
Not at the result —
at the process.
“Why?”
“Because you’re interesting.”
A-19 didn’t understand.
“You’re not like the rest,” Mika said.
The drawing showed her —
but different.
More alive.
“What do you think?”
A-19 paused.
Then she said:
“…beautiful.”
